Fundraising gaps will be filled at Interface Children, Family
Services of Ventura County thanks to a gift received from AT&T
Wireless Services.  The funds were raised through its purchase
of custom holiday cards from Cards With a Heart.
Through a partnership with corporations, Cards With a Heart
custom designs greeting cards for holiday use and then donates
50 cents for every greeting card purchased to the company's
charity of choice.  Through AT&T Wireless Services, purchase of
greeting cards and its designation of Interface as the recipient
of its gift, the nonprofit organization will receive $5,000,
according to Wendy Hauptman, owner of Cards With a Heart.
"With Cards With a Heart, a company is giving more than a card,
it is giving a gift to the community," Hauptman said.
This philosophy of caring for the community is right in sync with
AT&T Wireless Services' values, according to Sylvia Munoz
Schnopp, AT&T Wireless Services director of communications
and public affairs for the Nevada and Ventura/Santa Barbara
regions.
"AT&T Wireless Services received quality, custom cards and we
were able to give to a local nonprofit organization.  Giving to the
community is the best gift of all, so with this program we created
a definite 'win-win-win' situation for everyone involved,"
Schnopp said.
During the holiday season, Interface targeted raising $40,000 for
its counseling, education, shelter and treatment services for
abused children, battered women, their children and troubled
individuals and families.
"This contribution really helps fill the funding gaps we have with
the programs we provide to children and families throughout
Ventura County," Chris Rutter, development director of
Interface, said.
Launched only this year by Hauptman, a former AT&T employee,
Cards With a Heart already has generated more than $10,000 for
nonprofit groups with its holiday greeting card purchases by
major companies.
"This does not include the amount raised through independent
fundraising through the sale of greeting cards by nonprofit
agencies," Hauptman said.
Without incurring any additional expense over what large
corporate supporters generally budget for holiday greeting
cards, Cards With a Heart designs custom cards and helps
promote their choice of charity by raising funds for and
awareness about the group.  In addition to generating funds for
nonprofit groups, the back of each card carries a message about
the contribution and its contributor, as well as benefiting the
organization.
Nonprofit organizations also can benefit by using their own
custom cards for fundraisers, Hauptman said.  In its inaugural
year, Cards With a Heart helped more than a dozen companies
and nonprofit groups work together for the betterment of the
community, Hauptman said.
AT&T Wireless Services, Inc. is the largest digital wireless
carrier in the United States and also provides messaging,
wireless data and aviation communication services.  At the end
of the third quarter of this year, AT&T Wireless Services, Inc. had
more than 1.47 million Digital PCS customers and more than 7.83
million total wireless customers on a proportional count.  AT&T
Wireless Services, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of AT&T
Corp. (NYSET), the world's leader in telecommunications
services and technology.
